College: University of Virginia. Founded in 1819, this university was created by President Thomas Jefferson on land once owned by President James Monroe in Charlottesville, Virginia. It is the only college listed on UNESCO's World Heritage Site list. The school was ranked as America's 2nd best public university by US News & World Report in 2013. About 21,000 students attend this school.
