College of the Week - California State University: San Bernardino (CSUSB)

DSCF1903College: California State University-San Bernardino, called Cal-State San Bernardino is located in Southern California nestled next to the San Bernardino Mountains.  The public school serves over 18,000 students and offers over 200 degrees.  It is a regional leader in teacher educations.  The school was started in 1965 and it's sports teams are nicknamed Coyotes.

 

Book: "The Higher Power of Lucky" by Susan Patron (Call number: F-PAT).  Lucky, a 10 year old girl,  lives in Hard Pan, California near the desert (probably somewhere north of San Bernardino in the Mojave Desert).  She runs away from home during a sandstorm to get away from her father's ex-wife who has come to live with them after her mother died.  This book won the Newbery Award in 2007.
