This Week in the Library: February 19-21

Wow!  A 3-day week is really short!

Library Eagle Points:  The 2nd Eagle Point Contest is complete!  The winning class is Mrs. Hanson's 1st grade with 257 points.  They are going to have their lunch in the library and get fudge-sicles for dessert sometime next week!  Classes can earn up to 3 draws from the drawing bag per library class. The class gets draws by showing that they are self-managers coming into the library, during checkout/reading time, and lining up.  Each draw can be worth 1-5 points, then we multiply the total by the number of draws to get the total class points for the day.

Eaglets begin next week:  Our pre-school story time and checkout begins next week: Thursday, February 27 at 3:30 pm.  Preschoolers who will attend Sherwood in the future can come with their parent/guardian/caregiver.  Our guest reader for the 27th is Mrs. Gordon, one of Sherwood's first grade teachers.  More information is here:    Preschool Open Library Flyer 2014     Preschool Family Checkout Form

Gilbert Goldfish 3rd Grade: Heard our last Washington Children's Choice nominee: Gilbert Goldfish Want's a Pet by Kelly diPucchio and illustrated by Bob Shea.  This funny book has a goldfish longing for a pet.  There were a couple surprises including the ending.  Below is a link to some unlikely animal friends short videos from National Geographic.          Unlikely Animal Videos

4th Grade (Pawling Only): We practiced putting books in the correct Dewey Decimal order using this website: Order in the Library

5th Grade (Alderson Only): We wrapped up our fact & opinion unit by completing an assessment on the topic.  Students had to determine whether a statement was a fact (could be proven or not-proven) and opinion (can be argued) and explain their answer.

6th Grade: Continued looking at various library catalogs (school, college, and public libraries).  We will complete our charts next week.

Missed Classes:  Monday and Tuesday classes will have their books due next week!  Keep reading!
