This Week in the Library: February 10-14

February Bulletin Board 2014It's Valentine's Day week!  To celebrate we've asked Sherwood staff members to share their favorite book when they were a child.  Come in and take a look at our "Love" bulletin board to find out what book(s) your teacher loved!

Remember with no school on Monday and Tuesday next week students who have books due on those day can have their books for an additional week!  Students are always able to turn books in early and get new ones as needed (before school).

Primary Classes (K-3)

For primary classes, we've been catching up on our Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award nominees.  (Class have missed books due to holidays, half days, assemblies, etc).  Here's what's been read (many books with links are in previous posts):

Gilbert Goldfish Wants a Pet by Kelly doPucchio (Hanson's class)

Zorro Gets and Outfit by Carter Goodrich (Cook, Goodsky, and Gordon's classes)

Monster's Monster by Patrick McDonnell (Morehouse's class)

The Lonely Book by Kate Bernheimer (Keating & Rempel's classes)

The Boy Who Harnesses the Wind by William Kamkwamba (Rempel & Gregerson's classes)

4th Grade

Continued working on putting books in order using the Dewey Decimal System.  This week we practiced.  We worked on trouble spots in small groups. One more practice week and then we'll have an assessment on this skill.

5th Grade

We continued to work on determining fact & opinion.  Students tried to come up with multiple ways to prove facts and we talked about how we need to be more specific in our reasoning.  Instead of saying "the internet" we should mention a specific site or type of site (i.e. San Diego Zoo website or a zoo website).

6th Grade

Began to look at various library catalogs (public & college libraries).  We began to create a table comparing the call numbers of books at several different libraries.  Links to the libraries we were looking at can be found on the navigation side of the library website.  We will continue to work on our tables next week.
