This Week in the Library: 6/2-6/6

All books were due on June 6, so this has been a busy week in the library.  Keep looking for those book! Next week will be busy too with the Usbourne Book Fair.  Here's what the various classes did this week!

Kindergarten:  Kindergarten classes (except Cook - who attended the EPL visit - see below) colored their page for our class alphabet books.  Next week we will make an audio recording of the books!

1st grade: They participated in the Edmonds Public Librarian visit during their regularly scheduled class.  See the post below for more information about this visit.

2nd & 3rd Grades:  We conducted quick research using the book "One Tiny Turtle" by Nicola Davies.  Students brainstormed what they knew and the questions they had about turtles.  Then we listened to the story.  After the story students recorded one fact they learned from the source (the book) and drew a picture to go along with the fact.

4th & 5th Grades: Completed their picture book battle of the books.  Each group showed off their comprehension skills during this fun activity.

DSCF5072 6th Grade: I shared with the 6th graders options for Summer Reading then we had a guest speaker!  Ms. Rautenberg, librarian at Edmonds-Woodway High School came to introduce herself, tell them about things to think about while in middle school to prepare for high school.  She shared the secret to a successful high school career was to pay attention, get your work done, and be organized.  Students then created a piece of a bulletin board border that she will hang up in the fall of 2016 when they arrive at EWHS!

Preschool: Mrs. McDermott, our Intensive Support Teacher the story "What Was I Scared Of" from the Dr. Seuss Book "The Sneetches and Other Stories"  to the preschoolers.  This was our final preschool session.  It was a great year!

Professional:  Mr. Sonnen served on an interview committee for Edmonds Heights K-12.  They are in the process of hiring a librarian and Mr. Sonnen served as a library expert to help them in their selection.  Mr. Sonnen also attended the June meeting of the Puget Sound Council for the Review of Children's Materials at the Shoreline Center.  This was the last meeting of the school year.  He presented 3 book reviews to the audience.
